The Business and Management Pathway of the Scottish Graduate School of Social Sciences Doctoral Training Centre is delighted to announce a second cross-pathway PhD colloquium on April 9th-10th at the University of Aberdeen.

Building on the success of the previous colloquium, the event will work to further strengthen the Business and Management doctoral community in Scotland. It will provide doctoral researchers with an exciting opportunity to present their work to, and receive feedback from peers, and academic staff from across the pathway, as well as to network with other PhD scholars and academics from across Scotland.

The colloquium will feature paper presentations in parallel sessions and a poster presentation session. In recognition of a growing emphasis on the societal impact of social research, and the increasing diversification of post-doctoral careers, the colloquium will include a series of workshops on the theme of “Social Scientists at Large: Achieving Impact in and outside of Academia”.

Workshop sessions will address such topics as developing a publishing strategy; applying for research funding; engaging with the public; building a consultancy career. Professor Huw Davies (University of St Andrews) will give a keynote address on the topic of policy impact in social science. The colloquium is open to all PhD students researching Business and Management related topics at Scottish Universities, as well as those from relevant disciplines outside of Business and Management. The cost of attendance is £65, including meals. Participants will need to make their own accommodation and travel arrangements. Participants should approach their own institutions with regard to covering attendance, travel and accommodation costs for the colloquium.

The deadline for submitting abstracts has now passed. Final decisions on acceptance of abstracts will be communicated by 9th March 2015. The presentations and posters will be organised around the following fields of study: • Human Resource Management and Organisation Studies • Healthcare • Marketing • Ethics/Corporate Social Responsibility • International Business • Strategy • Entrepreneurship • Operations Management/Management Science
